Drinking enough water

Most of the people suffer from dehydration, without being aware of that. When they feel thirsty, it’s already late. Dehydration often provokes a headache, so people should take care of regular hydration, and drink at least 8 glass of water each day.

Avoiding caffeine

Although most people think that cup of strong coffee or tea will help them with a headache, the effect could be exactly the opposite. Caffeine is a strong diuretic and will lead to dehydration.

Magnesium

200-600 mg of Magnesium per day may significantly reduce headaches. Magnesium can be taken in form of pills, and by eating food rich in Magnesium: green vegetables (broccoli, spinach), meats and dairy products.

Exercising

An everyday exercise routine, especially in the fresh air will bring enough oxygen to the brain and help with headaches. Stretching and performing activities like yoga would improve body posture and reduce headaches in the long run.

Spices

Spices like cayenne or chili peppers are very effective natural headache remedies. Their ingredient called capsaicin interfere with substance connected with the feeling of pain and reduce it. Capsaicin also improves circulation and help with muscular tension.

Fish oil

Ingredients in fish oil reduce inflammation and lower blood pressure, that would help with a headache. Fish oil can be used like capsules, or in natural form, one tablespoon mixed with a glass of juice.

Essential oils

There are many essential oils that can be used as natural headache remedies. Most effective essential oils are lavender and peppermint oil. Peppermint oil has a cooling effect and helps with headaches when it’s used in neck massage. Lavender oil is very calming and relaxing, especially when it’s used in a hot bath.

Almonds

Almonds contain the substance called salicin, that is known as a painkiller. A couple of these nuts can help with a tension headache, but it can be a trigger for a migraine headache, so they are not recommended for people suffering from a migraine.

Herbs

There is a number of herbs that are natural headache remedies. Some of well known are — Butterbur reduces inflammation that induces a headache, especially a migraine. This plant acts like beta-blocker and allows normal blood flow to the brain like nausea and vomiting; and Feverfew helps relieve migraine symptoms.
