Organic foods are often times more expensive, and it’s up to you if it’s worth it.

Potassium is an electrolyte that is prevalent in our bodies already. It helps maintain balance between our cells and our body fluids, and helps to keep our heart’s clipping along at a steady rhythm. While magnesium helps our nerves communicate with our muscle tissue. The heart is a muscle like any other, and keeping it nourished with essential vitamins and minerals is the best way to keep it strong.

Everyone remembers being young and being told to eat your greens. It may have been unpleasant at the time, and caused no end of argument to mothers the world over, but they were right. Fruits and vegetables are some of the healthiest things to eat. Bananas are chock full of potassium, magnesium and an array of vitamins. Apples, widely considered to be a “super-food,” lower cholesterol levels among many other things. Cholesterol levels being off can threaten the heart in many ways, and keeping it in check is a struggle for many people that care to think of heart healthy nutrition.

A steady diet of unaltered fruits and vegetables is a powerful way to maintain your heart. Remember that every time you cook or bake fruits or vegetables you burn off some of the nutritional substance. To get the full effect it’s best to eat them raw or as close to raw as possible, and wherever possible to get a hold of products that have not been altered in any way. Whole food and farmer’s markets can be found in most towns and many are now catering to the needs of consumers that care make it a point to maintain heart healthy nutrition.

Remember that, if at all possible, try to grow your own foods. You don’t necessarily need your own personal garden or greenhouse. Heart healthy stalks of green onion can be grown in a small planter just like anything else, and there is a certain joy to picking something off of your own windowsill and throwing it straight onto your pan. Take some time and try to think of way you can produce healthy raw foods for yourself in any way you can and you’ll thank yourself for it later… and your heart will thank you too.
